From Lastrup in northwestern Germany to Long Prairie, Minnesota

 
 
  Heinrich Griep, born around 1815, lived in Lastrup, a small village in the German Kingdom of Hanover. He was married and had four children, who all migrated to America.
When in 1879 the last one left -- his son Heinrich and his family -- he went together with them. Shortly after his arrival he died in Long Prairie Minnesota. This page is about his descendants.

Oldest daughter Angelica Griep was born around 1836 in Lastrup, Germany. In 1868 she married Heinrich (Henry) Hengemühle. That same year she migrated with her new family-in-law to Hartford, Todd County, Minnesota, where they had six children. She died in May 1904 in Hartford of liver trouble.

Heinrich Griep (Henry) was born June 5th, 1839, in Lastrup, Germany. He, his wife Gertrude Rosa and their three children migrated in 1879 to the United States. He settled as a farmer in Bruce, Todd County, Minnesota. He died December 9, 1913, in Long Prairie.

Mary Griep also migrated, to Long Prairie Minnesota, and married a man named Strack.

Herman Griep was born on August 4, 1852 in Lastrup, Germany. He migrated in 1872 to New York, worked in a tobacco factory in Saint Louis, at the railroad in Stearns County Minnesota and in the hotel of Long Prairie, Todd County. There he homesteaded and married Catherine Schmidt. They had 14 children.

  Bernhard Griep (1867-..)

Bernhard Griep (Ben) was born in September 1867 in Lastrup, Germany. In 1879 he migrated with his parents to Bruce, Todd County, Minnesota. He was a diary farmer. In 1902 he married in Long Prairie to Rosa Meyers, born in 1878 in Germany.

They had 7 children:

  • Gertrude (1902), Olivia (1903-2003), Wilhelm/William (1906), Bernard (1907), ... (1909), Sylvia (1910), Louis Griep (1912) and Alvina.

  Anna C. Griep (1868-..)

Anna C. Griep was born in September 1868 in Germany. On May 26, 1903, she married in Long Prairie to Joseph Hillmer Jr. They lived in Bruce, Todd County, close to and later in her fathers farm. They had 4 children: Herman H. (1904), Maria G. (1906), Frank L. (1907) en Edward L. (1909).

  Heinrich Joseph Griep (1873-1949)

Heinrich Joseph Griep (Henry) was born September 9, 1873 in Germany. At age 5 he emigrated with his parents to Bruce, Todd County, Minnesota. He worked in a sawmill, and later on he started a car repair shop.

On November 11, 1902, he married in Long Prairie to the nurse Wilhelmina Gertrude Spieker and had eight children. On September 16, 1949, he died in Long Prairie of stomach cancer. His wife died February 3, 1962.

  Henry Griep (1878-1949)

Henry Griep was born on December 9,1878, in Long Prairie, Minnesota. On October 11, 1904, he married Elizabeth Irmdieke from Meire Grove, Stearns County. He died on April 27, 1949, at Melrose, Stearns County, Minnesota en was buried on the St. Boniface Cemetery.
They had five children:

  • Agnes B., born February 24, 1907, at Padua, Stearns County. She married Ray Weeber from Chicago. She died August 14, 1992 in Chicago.
  • Lidwina, born February 9, 1909, at Padua, Stearns County. On June 4, 1932, she married Bob Bailey from Chicago. They had three children: Shirlene, Robert and Ronald Henry. She died, 40 years of age, from cancer on February 13, 1949.
  • Wilfred Griep, born July 1911 in Padua, Minnesota. Born Padua MN, July 1911; married Lorraine Beatrice Schneider and they had three children: Paul Michel, Linda and Susan. On October 24, 1985, his wife died, living in Santa Clara, California. Wilfred died in 2003 at Santa Clara, California.
  • Henry Griep, born September 1913 at Padua, Stearns County. He married Lucille Klosterman. He was a creamery operator, living in Arlington, Sibley County, Minnesota. They had six children: Elizabeth, Sandra (1942-1996), Barbara, Thomas, Steven and John Charles. Henry died on October 23, 1997.
  • Loretta, married George Breyer from Chicago.
  Joseph J. Griep (1880-1954)

Joseph Griep was born in April 1880. He married Mary L. Schneider, they lived in Todd, Minnesota. After their divorce, Joseph lived with their son James in Bruce en Mary with their son Arnold. Joseph died in 1954, at the age of 74.
They had three children:

  • Lucille Gertrude was born on May 31, 1904. She lived in Fontana, California and died on November 14, 1997.
  • Arnold E. Griep was born on August 28, 1906. He married Angeline and they lived in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He died on May, 27, 1999.
  • James L. Griep was born on December 8, 1914. He married Marie Elizabeth Petrie. They lived in Bruce Township, Todd, Minnesota and had children. James died on March 14, 1990 in Pine and his wife on August 4, 1991. They both were buried at Glen Cary Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ham Lake, Minnesota.

Mary Bona Griep (1882-1923) was born around 1882 in Minnesota. She died, 41 years old, on September 25, 1923, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

Magdalena Griep (1884-1972)

Magdalena Griep (Lena) was born on February 20, 1884, in Minnesota. Adopting the religious name of 'sister Laetitis', she joined the Order of Saint Benedict in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. She died in May 1972.

Bernard Francis Grip (1886-1953)  

Bernard Griep was born around 1886 in Minnesota. He worked for a railroad company, and changed his name from Griep to Grip. He married Catherine C., born around 1888 in New York, had eight children and lived at Casselton, North Dakota. He died in1953.

  • James E. Grip, born around 1919 in North Dakota.
  • Francis Aloysis Grip, born on January 7, 1920 in North Dakota. He lived in Pierce, Washington and died on November 18, 1996.
  • Bernard F. Grip, born on July 14, 1921 in North Dakota. He married Maxine P. Hagen and live in Orange County, California. In 1976 they divorced. He died on April 7, 1977, in Orange County, California.
  • Mary Catherine was born around 1923 in North Dakota.
  • Gerald P. Grip was born around 1925 in North Dakota.
  • Gordon D. Grip was born around 1926 in North Dakota.
  • Patrick J. Grip was born around 1928 in North Dakota.
  • John E. Griep was born around 1931 in North Dakota.

Margaret Griep (1888-1974) was born around 1888 in Minnesota. She died in 1974.

Herman Griep (1892-1962) was born on November 12, 1892. He lived in Minnesota and died November, 1962.

Catherine Griep (1892-1976), was born around 1892 in Minnesota. She died in 1976.

Edward Griep (1894-1955)

Edward Griep was born on December 3, 1893, in Carver, Minnesota. He married Winifred O'Connell from Illinois. They lived at Racine, Wisconsin, and had two children. He died on September 2, 1955, in Santa Clara, California. Their children:

  • Roland J. Griep was born on August 28, 1921, in Wisconsin. He lived in San Jose, California en died on July 11, 1976, in Santa Clara, California.
  • Carol was born around 1927 in Wisconsin.

John F. Griep (1896-1977)

John F .Griep was born January 17, 1896 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He served in World War I and entered banking in Long Prairie, then in Browerville and then in Staples, Todd County, Minnesota, where he lived the rest of his life. He married Isabella Maier of Long Prairie. He died in June 1977.
They had five daughters:

  • Marjorie, born around 1922.
  • Esther, born around 1923.
  • Alyce, born around 1925. She married to James Cain and had 6 children: Patrick, Colleen, Linda, James, Thomas, and Joseph.
  • June, born around 1927, and
  • Audrey, born around 1931. She married to mr. Zimmer.

Anna Griep (1898-1998) was born around 1898 in Minnesota. She died in 1998.

George A. Griep (1899-1972)

George Griep was born on November 9, 1899 in Minnesota. He married Celestia Sophia Hipple from Wisconsin. They lived in Long Prairie, Minnesota and had three children. His wife died in 1944 at Long Prairie. Later on, George lived in Ogden, Utah. He died there in September 1972.
Their children:

  • George C. Griep was born around 1921 in Oregon.
  • Virginia Emily was born on July 25, 1922, in Minnesota. She marriec mr. Miller. She died on October 21, 1995, in San Diego, California.
  • Constance Louise was born around 1928 in Minnesota. She married Jerome Anthony Bokinskie and lived in Todd County, Minnesota. They had a son: harles Jerome Bokinskie (1947).

Frank Griep (1902-1992)

Frank Griep was born February 5, 1902, in Minnesota. He married Mary E. Shipman from Missouri. They lived in Los Angeles, California and had three children. He died on October 23, 1992, at Los Alamitos, Orange County, California.
Their children:

  • Shirley Mae was born around 1934 in Minnesota. In 1952 she married in Los Angeles, California to Jack Kenneth Robertson.
  • Frank Dee Griep was born on February 27, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. He died there on March 27, 1942.
  • Vyrlle Ann was born on November 19, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. She married in 1961 in Nevada to Potenciano M. Antoniano. In May 1968 they divorced.
